Job Title: Bilingual Data Visualization Specialist (Contractor)
Salary range: $37.50-$51.95 per hour
Project Overview:
We are seeking a Bilingual Data Visualization Specialist to develop a public-facing tool designed to visualize research findings and data analysis from the CCDC/TRIP ridership assessment. The tool will be bilingual, accessible in both Chinese and English, and will utilize platforms such as Tableau Stories or ArcGIS Esri StoryMaps. This tool will serve as a key resource for advocating improvements in future data collection by transit agencies, with a specific focus on addressing the needs of the Chinatown community.
Key Responsibilities:
-
Tool Development: Create a bilingual, user-friendly tool that effectively visualizes data and research findings using Tableau Stories or ArcGIS Esri StoryMaps. Ensure the tool is accessible and engaging for both Chinese and English-speaking audiences.
-
Narrative Construction: Develop a narrative section within the tool that explores the historical context of transit in Chinatown. Highlight previous transit rider surveys and the evolution of transit needs over time, helping to contextualize current data and trends.
-
Quantitative Analysis Presentation: Design and present the quantitative analysis of the most recent CCDC/TRIP ridership assessment. This includes:
-
Demographics: Visualization of ridership demographics, including age, gender, income level, and other relevant characteristics.
-
Trip Purpose: Insights into the primary purposes of trips taken by the community, such as commuting, attending school, shopping, or accessing healthcare.
-
Bus Line Usage: Highlighting specific bus lines frequently used by the community and their significance in daily life in Chinatown.
-
Interactive Visualization: Incorporate interactive elements such as graphs, charts, and other visual aids to make the data more accessible and understandable for a broad audience, including community groups, local residents, and policymakers.
-
Community Engagement: Ensure the tool encourages community engagement by simplifying complex data and empowering residents to understand and advocate for their transit needs.
-
Support Dissemination of Results: Collaborate with CCDC planners to support the dissemination of results. The platform will be used to engage directly with grassroots organizations in San Francisco and transit agencies. This engagement will empower these organizations to participate meaningfully in discussions with transit agencies, such as the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA), and other key stakeholders involved in the budgetary process.
-
Facilitate Collaborative Conversations: Utilize the platform to create granular, data-informed narratives that can spark productive conversations with transit agencies. The goal is to ensure that transit planning becomes more inclusive and responsive to the needs of transit-dependent communities like Chinatown, promoting a more equitable transportation system overall.
