Nature of Work


The City of Miami Beach is looking for an experienced, full time Microsoft BI Developer to work with the Data Integration and Analytics team supporting the Business Intelligence environment. The candidate will utilize their experience with the Microsoft stack and other technologies to support the operational, analytical, and data integration needs of the organization. This position will be responsible for the development, support, and documentation of new and existing Business Intelligence initiatives.

This professional position reports to an assigned supervisor and may exercise some degree of autonomy in accomplishing the IT department's strategic goals while providing technical support and project execution for various City departments. This includes assisting other technical staff and stakeholders with the planning, development, installation, configuration, maintenance, support, and optimization of all business intelligence systems as required. Β The person will also assist technical staff as required to analyze and resolve end user computing experience and global customer issues in a timely and accurate fashion. In addition, this position will provide end user and peer training where required.



Illustrative Examples of Essential Duties


  • Translate business requirements into specifications that will be used to implement the required reports and dashboards.
  • Work with business units to gather requirements, development and delivery of business intelligence & reporting services.
  • Develops and implements business intelligence & analytics to support organizational initiatives.
  • Build rich and dynamic dashboards using out-of-box features, customizations and visualizations.
  • Design and publish custom dashboards and web applications for business functions, stakeholders and corporate users around the company.
  • Design, model, develop & optimize BI solutions to meet data management and data reporting objectives.
  • Design and model data flows and procedures ensuring data quality and integrity
  • Working with data engineers and application engineers to ensure that data sets feeding the analytics platforms are tuned for optimal performance.
  • Work with power users of the analytics/reporting tools to advice on best practices for the business Intelligence reporting.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues with the processes used and the content produced by the BI platform.
  • Work with business stakeholders to define and improve standardized and ad-hoc analytics/reporting capabilities.
  • Work as part of the BI team to maintain and develop all components of the BI platform.
  • Provide ongoing maintenance support through troubleshooting, report modifications and optimization.
  • Provide input into the technical architecture and the data warehouse technology stack.
  • Create functional and technical design documents and maintain documentation for all reports and dashboards created or modified
  • Creates and maintains positive, cohesive work environment


Minimum Requirements


Education: Any combination of education and training which would provide the opportunity to acquire the knowledge and abilities listed. Normally, graduation from a four-year college or university with major coursework in computer science, information systems, or a closely related field would provide this opportunity.

  • 4+ years production SQL Server and Business Intelligence development and support
  • 3+ years Production experience working with Microsoft SQL Server (SSRS),(SSIS),(SSAS),(Power BI), API
  • Experience with data integration methodologies and tools
  • Experience with the design of relational and multidimensional database
  • Strong proficiency in SQL performance tuning
  • Understanding of SDLC lifecycle
  • Knowledge of Source Control practices
  • Experience on Azure Data Platform is a plus

Physical Requirements:
  • Sitting for extended periods of time.
  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, power tools, and to handle other computer components.
  • Occasional inspection of cables in floors and ceilings.
  • Lifting and transporting of moderately heavy objects, such as computers and peripherals.
  • Β Β Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact. Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office related equipment. Some standing, walking, moving, climbing, carrying, bending, kneeling, reaching, and handling, sitting, standing, pushing, and pulling.
