Overview
Reporting to the Deputy Director of Financial Planning & Analysis, the Financial Analyst assists in developing, analyzing, reviewing, and monitoring long-term plans and annual operating budgets for various schools and departments within the University. Financial Analysts will receive broad exposure to financial planning, analysis, and budgeting within a large, complex organization with a wide variety of opportunities for developing skills and building a successful career as a financial and business professional. Use high level analytical, database and excel skills to monitor and report on trends, identify areas for consolidation, savings, and maximization of return on investment. Analyses and reports will inform and advise decision making by University leadership, including the Officers and the Yale Corporation Finance Committee.
Required Skills and Abilities
1. Strong analytical and quantitative skills.
2. Proactive self-starter, resourceful, with ability to multi-task, learn quickly, and work in a fast paced environment while maintaining a high attention to detail.
3. Strong personal computer skills especially with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
4. Excellent interpersonal written and oral communication skills.
5. Demonstrated interest in learning and developing as a financial or business professional.
Preferred Education, Experience and Skills:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business, Economics or Finance and four years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Demonstrated application of financial, accounting and economic concepts.
Principal Responsibilities
1. Financial Modeling and Forecasting. Provides technical analysis to determine present and future financial performance. Organizes information from a variety of sources for use in analyzing future plans and forecasts. Collaborates with all levels of management, both internally and externally, to gather, analyze, summarize, prepare, and present recommendations regarding financial plans and other complex financial matters. Researches and evaluates information to resolve issues and makes recommendations. Develops and/or executes complex financial models. 2. Financial Analysis and Reporting.
