DescriptionAs WorkplaceNL’s Financial Analyst you will be accountable for monitoring and reporting WorkplaceNL's financial position. Through participation in the preparation of annual financial statements, administration of the budget process, implementation of timely stewardship reporting, effective investment and asset management and use business case analysis, you play a key role in assisting the organization in monitoring and achieving corporate goals.
Role Responsibilities
- Prepares documents to assist in the preparation of the annual financial statements which report WorkplaceNL’s funding position to all its stakeholders. Through this process, you will be responsible for providing WorkplaceNL's actuary with the necessary historical data to be used in the liability valuation and for preparing the liability working papers and schedules.
- Participates in the preparation of the Annual Consolidated Administrative, Capital and Project Budgets. Through direct communication with managers and directors, you relay the significance/impact of executive management directives concerning budgetary requirements.
- Develops a working knowledge of the comprehensive tracking system for WorkplaceNL’s fixed assets. The system ensures the safeguarding of WorkplaceNL’s fixed assets and provides adequate controls to prevent theft and fraud.
- Creates financial models and ensuring that the financial models established and maintained by the department accurately reflect the financial, economic and business conditions facing WorkplaceNL. WorkplaceNL utilizes financial modeling techniques and tools to determine expected future outcomes, evaluate alternatives and assist with mapping organizational goals and direction.
- Works closely with the Manager, Accounting, on a daily basis regarding details of accounting practices benefit payment systems, actuarial data requests and findings, revenue requirements and auditors’ requests. With increased emphasis on accountability and outcome-based measures, the Finance Department plays a larger role in financial and statistical reporting to all levels of the organization.
Essential Skills and Qualifications
- Bachelor of Commerce degree, supplemented by a recognized professional accounting designation and a minimum of five years’ related experience in the preparation of financial statements and various statistical analyses.
- The successful candidate must have excellent organizational, analytical, oral and written communication skills and experience with advanced personal computer applications.
