Position Summary The Fiscal and Economic Analyst provides data and analytical support to the Institute of Government’s Workforce and Economic Development Division. The Fiscal and Economic Analyst primarily supports the unit’s economists while also collaborating with demographers, geographers, and workforce and economic development professionals. The Analyst locates, acquires, and organizes public and private datasets for research conducted for local and state government decision-making, tax expenditure evaluation, fiscal analysis, and other public-sector projects. The Analyst works with economic, education, demographic, and labor market data to understand and communicate trends that will help legislators, government leaders, economic development professionals, education leaders, and other community stakeholders make data informed decisions. The position writes code for statistical and econometric modeling, forecasting, projections, and statistical inference. The Analyst may also take the lead in research and technical assistance projects based on their available time, skills, and experience. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent Preferred Qualifications • Demonstrated proficiency in R, Python, or Julia for data management, statistical analysis, visualization, or reproducible research • Experience developing reproducible data processes • Master’s degree in statistics, economics, or related quantitative social science • Research interests in economic analysis • Experience working with economic, workforce, demographic, education, fiscal, or other public-sector datasets • Experience with GIS or geospatial analysis • Experience working with non-profit and government organizations • Experience presenting complex information to technical and non-technical audiences Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies Knowledge of quantitative research methods, data management, and statistical analysis. Skill in collecting, managing, cleaning, and analyzing data using R, Python, Julia, or similar statistical software. Ability to identify data quality issues and maintain accurate, secure, and reproducible datasets. Knowledge of economic, demographic, workforce, and labor market data and analytical techniques. Skill in preparing reports, data visualizations, and presentations to communicate research findings. Ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and adapt to changing research priorities. Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with faculty, project managers, and stakeholders. Demonstrated ability to work independently and support the Institute’s public service mission.
