Who We Are
The Fund for Public Health in New York City (FPHNYC) is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that is dedicated to the advancement of the health and well-being of all New Yorkers. To this end, in partnership with the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH), FPHNYC incubates innovative public health initiatives implemented by DOHMH to advance community health throughout the city. It facilitates partnerships, often new and unconventional, between government and the private sector to develop, test, and launch new initiatives. We embrace a culture of learning, collaboration, innovation, and well-being, where open communication drives our impact.
About The Role
The GAC Fund Data Analyst will work under the direction of the GAC Project Manager to develop the needed tools, methodology and approach to help inform the GAC landscape analysis. This role will manage and analyze datasets, develop and conduct surveys and/or interviews with participating programs for the purpose of informing fund design and evaluating the fund. The Data Analyst monitors and evaluates the performance of GAC Fund grantees/contractors. The GAC Fund Data Analyst is part of the team primarily responsible for citywide efforts to promote and protect access to gender affirming care.
About the Program
Gender-affirming care (GAC) is recognized by major U.S. medical associations as medically necessary for many transgender and gender-diverse people. In addition, many transgender and gender non-conforming/non-binary (TGNCNB) individuals also need legal or practical assistance in updating their identification documents, combatting jobs or housing discrimination, or even accessing education or bathrooms. Research shows GAC is associated with reduced depression and suicidal ideation, and better long-term mental health outcomes. Denial of care or legal recognition of one’s identity increases risk of mental health crisis and unsafe self-treatment. Yet access has become increasingly difficult due to state-level restrictions, insurance barriers, and shifting federal guidance.
