Position Description:
The BI analyst / data analyst acts as a specialist at the intersection of business needs, operational processes, data and analytical solutions.
They analyse the needs of business teams, document processes, define functional requirements and data needs, and then translate these into clear, actionable specifications for the delivery teams. They help to make data more accessible, consistent, traceable and reusable, whilst supporting the production of reports, dashboards, analyses and metrics that enable better decision-making.
A senior BI analyst / data analyst who is self-reliant and able to contribute quickly to analysis, documentation, validation and collaboration with delivery teams, without necessarily being positioned as a data architect or specialist BI developer.
Your future duties and responsibilities:
1. Gather, analyse and document business and data requirements.
2. Translate the business teams’ requirements into functional requirements, user stories, acceptance criteria and data specifications.
3. Identify the data required to support analyses, reports, dashboards or operational processes.
4. Map business concepts to source data and target data structures.
5. Define and document business rules, as well as data transformation, validation, quality and traceability rules.
6. Analyse data sources and assess their availability, quality and suitability for the client’s needs.
7. Collaborate on the design of data models, consumption layers and BI solutions.
8. Maintain an end-to-end view of data flows, from source systems through to reports, dashboards or analytical solutions.
9. Prepare and facilitate analysis, mapping and validation workshops with stakeholders.
10. Collaborate with product managers, developers, data engineers, architects, BI teams and source system managers.
11. Support functional validation activities, acceptance testing and the resolution of issues.
12. Produce and maintain clear, comprehensive and actionable functional documentation for delivery and support teams.
Required qualifications to be successful in this role:
Required skills
1. Experience in BI analysis, data analysis, functional analysis or business analysis.
2. Very good command of SQL and the ability to analyse large volumes of data.
3. Experience with Power BI, Tableau or other data visualisation and analysis solutions.
4. Good understanding of ETL/ELT concepts, data integration, transformation, quality and traceability.
5. Ability to read, understand and interpret conceptual, logical and physical data models.
6. Ability to document business rules, transformation rules, validation rules and functional specifications.
