The Data Analyst owns the data itself: what is in the database, whether it is sound, and what it can and cannot answer. This role pairs directly with the Business Analyst. Where the Business Analyst frames the question and interprets the answer, the Data Analyst locates the data, judges whether it will support the question, writes the query, and stands behind the completeness of what comes back. Deep knowledge of emergency services operations is useful but not expected, and analytical interpretation sits with the Business and Deployment Analysts. The two roles are designed to work as a pair, and a candidate strong in both directions will be considered for either. The ideal candidate is fluent in SQL, quick to learn an unfamiliar schema, and rigorous about data integrity.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Write SQL to retrieve the data requested by the analytical team Extract, join, and shape datasets into the form the requester needs Build and maintain recurring data pulls that feed standing reports
- Coordinate with client IT staff and CAD vendors to establish new data feeds, and ingest and transform CAD, AVL/GPS, and status data into structured form
- Own the assessment of data quality and integrity: whether records are present, fields are
- populated, joins resolve, time series are free of gaps, and timestamps are ordered
- Report what is missing, incomplete, or unreliable, and what that means for the analyses depending on it
- Identify implausible values and statistical outliers and refer them to the Business Analyst for a determination as to whether they represent errors, real events, or local practice
- Know what the database structure can and cannot express, and say early when a question cannot be answered with the data as modeled
- Raise structural gaps and needed schema changes to the developer, and validate the result once delivered
- Configure new and existing client organizations in the database, including standards, determinant-to-classification mapping, regions, and unit and deployment assignment, working from specifications provided by the Business Analyst
- Provision and maintain client user accounts and access
- Verify that configuration changes produce correct output before any result is released Document queries, transformations, and configuration so that any pull or setup can be reproduced
- Observe all company policies and procedures
Additional Responsibilities:
- Cross training and assisting Business and Deployment Analyst positions
- Minimal travel may be required
- Perform other duties as assigned
Minimal Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Demonstrate a high degree of professionalism to engender respect and build rapport as
