We have an opening for a Software Engineer to help develop innovative software for ASD Scorpius, one-of-a-kind next-generation linear induction accelerator that will generate multiple, precisely timed, high-energy X-ray images during subcritical experiments, providing scientists with unprecedented experimental data to better understand material behavior under extreme conditions. You will work at the intersection of software, data, controls, and experimental science, developing intuitive data-visualization and user-interface capabilities that help scientists and engineers' access, understand, and interact with complex accelerator and experimental data. You will help build software that connects data-recall systems, databases, and accelerator controls, transforming large volumes of technical information into useful, accessible tools for the multi-disciplinary team commissioning and operating this unique system. You will work alongside experienced software developers, controls engineers, scientists, and project personnel and have the opportunity to see your software become part of a major experimental capability from development through integration and commissioning.
This is an opportunity to begin your career working on challenging, mission-critical software where the connection between code and real-world engineering is immediate. The software approaches and experience developed on Scorpius will also be applicable to other major experimental systems and future national-security capabilities at LLNL. This position is in the National Security Engineering Division (NSED) within the Engineering Directorate.
This position requires full-time on-site presence due to the nature of the work.
You will
