As a Sr. Business Intelligence Engineer, you are responsible for developing analytical solutions using enterprise reporting tools to meet business requirements. You have an expert understanding of one or more of the tools in the enterprise reporting toolset and can develop very complex dashboards and reports. You are a thought leader on the team and consistently lead and challenge others on the team to drive towards efficient and supportable solutions. You have strong verbal and written communication skills, and you use those skills to collaborate with cross-functional partners to solve issues and design enterprise solutions.
Responsibilities
- Develop analytical solutions that use standards and design patterns defined by the technical team and that meet all approved requirements and design specifications.
- Unit test developed analytical solutions to ensure they are meeting defined requirements for business rules and performance expectations.
- Provide accurate estimates for work assigned to you, meet agreed deadlines and specifications, record accurate time and communicate to project management when any issues arise that prevent you from meeting agreed timelines or agreed specifications.
- Support developed EDW/BI applications to ensure 24/7 delivery of those applications and notify stakeholders when issues arise with delivery of those applications or defined service level agreements.
- Solicit help from team members when troubleshooting issues outside of your area of expertise.
- Mentor junior developers and review code.
- Organize project or support team meetings to discuss production issues or design considerations.
- Provide accurate estimates for work assigned to you and others, meet agreed upon deadlines, record accurate time and communicate to management when timelines will not be met by you or the team.
- Define standards and design patterns to be used by the technical team.
- Translate a Functional Specification into a Technical Specification provided by a Business Analyst.
- Perform as a thought leader on the team by leading design sessions and challenging designs of others in a respectful manner to get an optimal design.
- Keep an enterprise view of the companyβs data by driving towards common data definitions and design and develop reusable reporting and integration assets.
- Organize project, support, or cross functional team meetings to discuss production issues or design considerations.
- Provide status reports of the technical teamβs progress on assigned work, communicate progress, and provide resource plans for the team.
- Work with Business Engagement Managers and business leaders on understanding requirements, and provide estimates for EDW/BI work.
- Keep abreast of the latest tools and design techniques as it relates to business intelligence tools.
- Have a broad understanding of the EDW/BI technology stack and how the various integration and BI tools can be used effectively to meet business requirements.
- Have a broad enterprise understanding of Landsβ End systems and how those systems interact with the EDW/BI infrastructure. Participate in company architecture forums or as a technical lead in cross functional projects.
Qualifications
- Bachelorβs degree in computer science, Information Systems, Data Science, or a related field. A masterβs degree is a plus.
- Minimum of 4 years of experience in BI development, data analytics, or a related field.
- Proficient in SQL and experience with databases such as DB2, SQL Server, Oracle, or similar.
- Strong experience with BI tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or similar.
- Experience with ETL tools, processes, data warehousing concepts, and architecture.
- Experience with cloud-based data platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).
- Familiarity with programming languages such as Python or R is a plus.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong understanding of data/reporting governance, standards, and management principles.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Ability to understand requirement documents and technical specifications and translate those into code.
- Ability to give constructive feedback to others based on their adherence to defined coding standards and best practices, strong understanding of governance and standards.
- Ability to lead cross-functional design and review sessions and provide constructive feedback to others as it relates to coding standards and industry best practices.
