The Pricing and Analytics group on Amazon Retail Operations and Initiatives team is looking for a talented Senior Business Intelligence Engineer to drive world-class analysis and guide strategic business decisions.
At Amazon, you will be working in one of the world's largest and most complex data environments. The Senior Business Intelligence Engineer occupies a unique role at the intersection of business, technology, finance, statistics, data mining, and Supply-Chain science.
To succeed in this role you should be passionate about working with large datasets and be someone who loves to bring data together to answer key business questions. You should have deep expertise in the creation and management of datasets and the proven ability to translate the data into meaningful insights. You should have a solid understanding of efficient and scalable data mining and an ability to use the data in financial and statistical modeling. In this role, you will have ownership of end-to-end development of reports and solutions to complex questions and youβll play an integral role in strategic decision-making.
Key job responsibilities
Gather data and perform sophisticated analytical exercises
Employ data mining, segmentation, and other analytical techniques to capture important trends and create relevant measurement dashboards
Drive standardization, simplification and automation of internal processes and data products
Manage weekly and monthly business reporting and create relevant measurement dashboards
Work with various stakeholders to understand business drivers, goals, and actionable outcomes using analytics
Manage databases and work with technology teams to develop systems to support business intelligence needs
A day in the life
The successful candidate will be comfortable with advanced SQL query design and data mining techniques, have strong analytical and communication skills, and have a passion for using data to drive business decisions. You attack complex business questions with data and curiosity, diving below the surface to identify the root cause. You develop strong working relationships with business partners (such as Amazon Pricing, Supply-Chain and Vendor Management teams) to define and understand key business questions and analyze data to answer those questions β driving strategic business decisions.
- 8+ years work experience in data analysis, applied statistics or econometrics
- Prior experience in design and execution of analytical projects, specifically with large data sets
- Proven analytical and quantitative skills and an ability to use hard data and metrics to back up assumptions and develop business cases.
- Experience partnering with business owners directly to understand requirements and develop to assist in finding patterns and anomalies in customer behavior
- Strong verbal/written communication & data presentation skills, including an ability to effectively communicate with both business and technical teams and develop clear, thoughtful, and comprehensive analyses of marketing programs
- Strong knowledge of quantitative analytics and advanced analytical tools. Advanced SQL skills are required.
- Masterβs degree or higher in economics, statistics, mathematics, econometrics, quantitative finance, or operational research, computer science or a similar quantitative field
- Proficiency with statistical tools SAS, R, Python (or similar tools) strongly preferred.
- Deep experience with data mining, data analytics, predictive modeling, and advanced modeling techniques.
- Analytical mindset and ability to see the big picture and persuade others to see the same
- Detail-oriented with an aptitude for solving unstructured problems

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $117,300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $202,800/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
