DESCRIPTION:
As a Tableau Developer/Software Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in designing, developing, and maintaining advanced Tableau-based data visualization solutions for a high-security Government customer. Your primary responsibility will be to create interactive dashboards and reports that enhance decision-making and streamline business processes. Working closely with cross-functional teams and stakeholders, you will transform complex business requirements into technical specifications, ensuring that each solution is optimized for performance, scalability, and usability.

In addition to your Tableau development expertise, you will be responsible for performing unit testing, troubleshooting, and ensuring that all deliverables meet high-quality standards and regulatory compliance. This position requires you to collaborate closely with development teams and customers, providing technical guidance and troubleshooting support. As part of an Agile environment, you will be expected to work iteratively, delivering value quickly while maintaining high standards of code quality and security. The role demands a deep understanding of data modeling, SQL, and advanced Tableau features, including calculations and statistical functions.
Β Β  Job Duties Tableau Development & Reporting

  • Design and develop complex Tableau dashboards and data visualizations to support business and operational goals.

  • Conduct unit testing to ensure scalability, manageability, performance, and reusability of reports.

  • Implement and maintain Tableau-driven analytics solutions, ensuring alignment with business requirements.

  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to refine reporting needs and deliver actionable insights.

  • Troubleshoot and optimize Tableau reports and dashboards to improve performance and user experience.


Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Partner with customers and business teams to define key performance indicators (KPIs) and reporting requirements.

  • Provide technical expertise and guidance in Tableau report design, architecture, and implementation.

  • Maintain effective communication with project teams to ensure requirements are met and expectations are exceeded.

  • Work in an Agile environment, participating in regular sprint reviews and contributing to iterative development.


Technical & Analytical Expertise

  • Analyze user needs and develop technical specifications to ensure solutions meet or exceed business requirements.

  • Perform advanced SQL query optimization and data analysis to improve reporting accuracy and efficiency.

  • Apply advanced statistical functions and calculations to enhance the value of Tableau reports.

  • Develop and enforce Tableau best practices, ensuring high-quality, consistent results across all reporting projects.


Security & Compliance

  • Ensure all developed solutions comply with security policies, guidelines, and industry standards.

  • Adhere to Configuration Management, Change Management, and Security policies during the development lifecycle.

  • Ensure compliance with the latest software standards, regulations, and government-specific requirements.


Documentation & Technical Support

  • Create and maintain clear, concise documentation for Tableau dashboards, reports, and project workflows.

  • Provide ongoing technical support and training to Tableau users, both internal and external.

  • Offer troubleshooting assistance and resolve technical issues in Tableau reports and visualizations.

  • Eight (8) years of hands-on Tableau development experience.

  • Three (3) years of client-facing experience demonstrating leadership in a technical role

  • Ten (10) years of total professional experience in the information technology career field.

    • Advanced Tableau Development: Expertise in designing, developing, and optimizing interactive Tableau dashboards and visualizations to meet complex business requirements.

    • Tableau Advanced Features: Proficient in leveraging advanced Tableau features, including calculated fields, level of detail (LOD) expressions, table calculations, and statistical functions.

    • Dashboard Optimization & Performance Tuning: Ability to optimize Tableau dashboards for performance, ensuring quick load times, responsive interactions, and scalability across various data volumes.



  • SQL, Data Modeling & Database Expertise

    • SQL & Data Querying: Advanced skills in writing and optimizing SQL queries for extracting, transforming, and aggregating data to feed Tableau visualizations.

    • Data Modeling & Normalization: Strong understanding of relational databases, RDBMS systems, and data modeling, including normalization techniques and performance tuning for data storage.

    • Data Integration: Experience in integrating data from various sources, including flat files, databases, and cloud-based platforms, into Tableau for seamless reporting and analysis.



  • Business Intelligence & Reporting

    • Business Intelligence Tools: Deep understanding of business intelligence (BI) principles and how tools like Tableau can be used to automate reporting processes and deliver actionable insights.

    • KPI & Metric Definition: Ability to define key performance indicators (KPIs), build relevant reports, and tailor them to the unique needs of business users, ensuring strategic decision-making is data-driven.

    • Data Visualization Best Practices: Familiarity with best practices in data visualization, including storytelling with data, creating clear and effective visualizations that are easy to understand and interpret.



  • Security, Compliance & Regulatory Knowledge

    • Security Standards & Compliance: Experience working within government security policies, including adherence to standards for Configuration Management (CM), Change Management (CM), and compliance with government regulations (e.g., FISMA, NIST, etc.).

    • Data Protection & Encryption: Understanding of secure data management principles, including encryption, access control, and data masking, to ensure sensitive information is protected in Tableau reports and visualizations.



  • Agile & Collaborative Environment

    • Agile Methodologies: Proven experience working in Agile development environments, following Scrum or Kanban processes to deliver Tableau-based solutions iteratively.

    • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Strong communication and collaboration skills, capable of working with product owners, business stakeholders, developers, and other cross-functional teams to define reporting requirements and deliver solutions that meet or exceed expectations.

    • Client Interaction & Consulting: Ability to work independently as a subject matter expert (SME), collaborating with clients and end-users to gather requirements and deliver customized Tableau solutions.



  • Problem-Solving, Troubleshooting & Technical Support

    • Problem-Solving & Debugging: Strong ability to identify and resolve complex issues related to Tableau reports, dashboards, and underlying data models.

    • Technical Support: Ability to provide technical support and troubleshooting for Tableau users, helping them resolve issues with reports, data sources, or visualizations.
