The Department Strategy section is responsible for coordinating analytics, reporting, business planning, and strategy development for the Office of the City Manager and Financial and Corporate Services Departments. As a Business Analyst, you will play a key role in supporting these activities by providing expertise in research, qualitative and quantitative analysis and business process improvement.
What will you do?
- Data Extraction and Validation: Extract data from various systems and conduct audits to ensure accuracy, quality and consistency across all sources
- Research and Data Analysis: Conduct research, identify trends, and analyze issues related to municipal best practices and performance. Perform data analysis and generate comprehensive reports to support data-driven decision making and provide actional recommendations
- Performance Measures Tracking\: Monitor and evaluate performance metrics to ensure alignment with organizational goals and identity areas of improvements
- Data Visualization and Presentation: Report and visualize complex data, develop and maintain interactive dashboards for performance management reporting, create presentation materials with data visualizations
- Process Analysis and Improvement: Analyze existing business processes to identify areas for improvement and recommend alternative solutions
- Collaboration and Implementation: Standardize processes, collaborate with other departments to implement improvements, and conduct environmental scans or benchmarking to identify industry trends and potential enhancements
- Business Planning and Alignment: Facilitate and support business planning activities, ensuring alignment with corporate strategies, including maintaining branch and department strategies, facilitating planning sessions, and collaborating with stakeholders to align efforts
- Project Support: Facilitate and document business requirements for branch or department project business cases, including coordinating with shared services partners and conducting project research

- Bachelor's degree in business administration, management information systems, management, economics, statistics, or a related field
- 2 years of diversified and progressive experience in the area of data analysis, performance tracking, and business process improvement with a focus on extracting insights, visualizing complex data, creating dashboards and enabling data-driven decision making
Assets\:
- Experience with data extraction/querying tools such as MS/Oracle SQL and data visualization tools including Tableau Public and Desktop
Skills required for success:
- Proficiency in data extraction, validation and analysis, including statistical techniques and data manipulation
- Strong skills in data visualization and presentation, with the ability to create dashboard and reports
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills to present findings and support decision making
- Analytical and problem solving skills to identify areas of improvement
- Collaboration and relationship building skills to work effectively with various levels across departments
- Ability to work independently and as part of a teamΒ
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
