Position Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Data Visualization and Reporting Analyst to lead data reporting and analysis efforts in the School of Engineering and Computing. The Analyst will be responsible for technical tasks related to data collection, validation, analysis, interpretation, and visualization. This individual will collaborate with senior leadership—including the Dean, Assistant and Associate Deans, and department chairs—to design and deliver impactful reports, dashboards, and presentations that support strategic decision-making. In addition, the analyst will oversee the administration of key institutional surveys, such as the U.S. News & World Report and American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE) annual surveys. The work performed in this role will play a critical part in advancing the organization’s mission and achieving its strategic goals.

Workplace Requirements: 

Hybrid position: This position is offered as a hybrid role, combining both in-office and remote work to provide flexibility and support collaboration. This position would typically work 3-4 days in the office and 1-2 days remote, though weekly schedules are based on business needs. Per Rice policy 440, work arrangements may be subject to change.

Hiring Range: This full-time position is hiring at a starting salary between $85,000 and $90,000 per year.

*Exempt (salaried) positions under FLSA are not eligible for overtime. 

Minimum Requirements: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Data Analytics, Computer Science, Mathematics or a related field
    • In lieu of the education requirement, additional related experience, above and beyond what is required, on an equivalent year-for-year basis may be substituted. 
  • At least three years of related experience in data modeling, data visualization, data analysis, statistical modeling, or similar.

Skills: 

  • Strong listening, verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple activities in a deadline-oriented environment; highly organized, flexible and rigorous attention to detail
  • Ability to use logic to calculate data; efficiently construct a database or scrutinize the form of a question
  • Ability to work with data of varying levels of quality and validity
  • Demonstrated ability to explain and present complex analytical concepts to lay persons in clear and concise easy to understand terms
  • Ability to work effectively with multiple internal and external customers
  • Ability to take a leadership role on projects and with users/clients

Preferences:

  • Data science background (e.g., Python, SAS, SQL, Tableau, etc.)
  • Five+ years of experience with data modeling and visualization

Essential Functions:

  • Works under self-initiated direction to assess and produce relevant, standard, or custom reports
  • Distributes and disseminates reports accordingly
  • Translates data and reports into formats and presentations that are easily understood by a wide variety of audiences. 
  • Devise methods for identifying complex data patterns, trends in available information sources using a variety of qualitative and quantitative techniques
  • Determines and recommends additional data collection and reporting requirements
  • Designs and customizes reports based upon data in the database
  • Serves as a resource for routine and non-routine inquiries such as requests for statistics or surveys
  • Leads and implements data standards and common data elements for data collection
  • Process, clean, and validate the integrity of data for analysis
  • Collaborates with staff within the School of Engineering and Computing and in the Office of Institutional Effectiveness/Research to standardize and systemize routine reports, dashboards, and metrics
  • Responsible for collecting, analyzing, and submitting all data related to accreditation and surveys, including but not limited to US News & World Reports and American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE).
  • Build, maintain and present data models that track and predict various rankings
  • Responsible for creating and maintaining annual School of Engineering and Computing impact report
  • Performs all other duties as assigned

Additional Functions:

  • Support the Dean, Associate and Assistant Deans with various special projects related to the School of Engineering and Computing
  • Assist with presentations from the Dean's Office related to meetings with various stakeholders, including advisory boards, alumni, faculty, and administrators
  • Gather various industry and market data upon request
