Job Summary

The Data Visualization and Graphic Designer is responsible for supporting the Research and Insights team by designing reports, infographics, charts, white papers, social media graphics, resource center graphics, and other content pieces for both print and online publishing. The position also helps oversee scheduling of all requests from pre-production to publication.

Essential Duties and Responsibilitiesย 

  • Create layout of reports, infographics, charts, white papers, and other content items utilizing design best practices that align with the companyโ€™s brand guide, while meeting the goals and objectives of the department and the delivery schedule.
  • Meet with stakeholders to gather project objectives and details and collaborate with the Research and Insights and Editorial teams to develop and publish projects.
  • Lead project kickoff meetings with contributing departments, create production timeline based on initial request, project team availability and workload, and communicate project plans to all stakeholders, while providing communication to project team members throughout the production process of a project.
  • Delegate projects to external designers when needed based on workload and availability, assign individual tasks to project team members, and clearly define roles and responsibilities for project team members.
  • Adhere to department budget so that deliverables are on-time and within budget.
  • Collaborate with the team about layouts, review design work and provide constructive feedback to ensure high quality projects while maintaining brand consistency.
  • Organize final assets for print and digital distribution across departments and archive final design files.
  • Collaborate with other departments within the organization (Marketing, Communications, etc.) to stay current with strategic and design objectives.
  • Identify opportunities and gaps in publication process, and research new tools to enhance these, while staying current with design trends and design best practices.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and/or Experience

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in graphic design or related field, or a strong design portfolio.
  • Minimum 3-5 years graphic design experience or related work in the publishing field. Some project management experience is preferred.
  • Experience using Adobe Creative Cloud products โ€” specifically InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, and Acrobat.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office Suite โ€” specifically Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Understanding of data visualization and graphic design principles.
  • Understanding of paragraph, character, table, and object styles.
  • Understanding of master pages and other long-document features.
  • Strong critical thinking/problem solving skills.
  • Ability to be detail oriented, well-organized, with good time-management skills.
  • Ability to work with a team toward a shared goal.
  • Ability to adapt to deadlines and shifting priorities.
