GENERAL SUMMARY

Manages, reports, analyzes, and visualizes environmental data collected by the organization. Provides data, analyses, visualizations and reports as requested by both internal and external individuals and groups. Provides guidance to other staff for following best practices for collecting, storing, assessing and analyzing data.  Generates and communicates data driven solutions and recommendations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by employees in this job. Employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description.

 

  • Develops and manages new and existing data viewers, visualization reports, infographics and fact sheets. Checks accuracy of data visuals, identifies issues and collaborates with other departments to update and/or modify them.
  • Collaborates with all sections of the Environmental Sciences department to ensure data projects are completed accurately and timely. Generates data deliverables in prescribed formats by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) and other local and state agencies.
  • Serves as a data steward and/or data custodian and participates in departmental and agency wide data management and governance efforts to promote and implement good data management practices.  
  • Adheres to departmental and agency data management processes and keeps all elements of designated data resources accurate and up to date.
  • Edits and updates department databases using Microsoft Structured Query Language (SQL) Server and generates data reports as requested. Conducts data management quality control checks for designated projects.
  • Creates and manages task schedules for the Clean Rivers Program data deliverable and monitors the status of scheduled goals. Reviews and comments on Clean Rivers Program administrative documents and standard operating procedures.
  •  Conducts data quality checks and modifies or updates data as needed. Provides guidance to other departmental staff for following best practices for collecting, storing, assessing, and analyzing data.
  • Develops maps, charts and graphics utilizing ArcGIS, PowerBI and other platforms as needed. 
  • Completes data and map requests for customers as needed.
  • Conducts or assists with environmental data analyses as needed.
  • Performs related work as required.

 

SUPERVISORY REQUIREMENTS

  • This position does not directly supervise any employees.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

 

Required Education and Experience

  • An undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university in a STEM field, Data Science, or a related discipline, and six (6) months of progressively responsible experience in environmental data management, analysis, quality assurance, and data delivery; or a related field; or a combination of experience and education that results in the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
