Financial Analyst

GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB

Provides accounting and financial reporting and analysis work related to the Tourist Development Department.

EXAMPLES OF WORK

β€’ Performs accounting duties for the department, i.e., convention center client billing, industry marketing partner billing, department invoice payment processing, and revenue and expenditure reconciliations.

β€’ Totals cash, check, and credit card receipts from billings, prepares deposit slips, and verifies accuracy of revenue postings. Manages billings and payments in event management and customer relationship software systems.

β€’ Maintains contact with finance department, vendors, industry partners and event organizations to arrange for payment and receipt of funds as required.

β€’ Performs timesheet reconciliation and payroll entry for department staff.

β€’ Reviews and approves credit card reports and travel documentation for department staff.

β€’ Reconciles vendor invoices to contract terms and verifies all requisite documentation has been received prior to submitting for payment.

β€’ Prepares and processes financial audits, financial statements and claims related to department activities.

β€’ Analyzes and compiles data for assimilation into reports. Prepares financial reports and provides analysis of financial status of the department in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.

β€’ Assists supervisor with statistical and financial analysis, research, data compilation, and report preparation for internal and external dissemination.

β€’ Assists supervisor with developing procurement solicitation specifications and subsequent contract documents, to include monitoring and managing all department contracts.

β€’ Assists supervisor in departmental budget analysis, monitoring, development, and reporting.

β€’ Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education, Training, and Experience: Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or closely related field; supplemented by minimum of two (2) years progressively responsible accounting or finance experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Experience with automated accounting programs and Microsoft Office software is preferred. Experience in a governmental organization, destination marketing organization, or convention center is preferred.

Licenses and/or Certifications: Requires a valid driver license

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Physical Requirements: Must be able to operate a variety of office equipment and other related machines. Must be able to exert 10 to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. Physical demands are essentially those of sedentary work.

Language Ability: Requires ability to read a variety of technical data, policy and procedure manuals, codes, professional journals, etc. in moderately complex terminology. Requires the ability to prepare forms and reports using prescribed formats, and adhering to all rules of grammar, spelling, diction, and punctuation. Requires the ability to communicate effectively in standard English. Requires the ability to communicate with a broad array of individuals from various professional backgrounds. Must be able to communicate effectively in standard English, and to articulate information to others.

Intelligence: Requires the ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; to interpret a variety of technical instructions in written, mathematical or diagrammatic form; to learn and understand relatively complex principles and techniques; to make independent judgments in absence of supervision; to acquire knowledge of topics related to primary occupation.

Numerical Aptitude: Must be able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide; calculate decimals and percentages; compute discount, profit and loss, ratio and proportion, interpret graphs.

Interpersonal Temperament: Requires the ability to deal with people beyond receiving instructions. Must be adaptable to performing under moderate levels of stress, imposed by frequent deadlines, peak workloads, or public contact. Avoids violent behavior and any other type of behavior that could threaten the safety of other employees or the public.
