Report to the Accounting Manager, Grants, the Financial Analyst position is responsible for assisting with all aspects of financial analysis of the Universities research portfolio in order to ensure accurate expenditures for grant projects, including indirect costs projections, and gathering institutional data related to reporting research expenditures.
Position Specific Responsibilities/Accountabilities
- Analyze current financial data for grants and research expenditures and provide forecasting support.
- Prepare monthly burn rate reports on active grants for Offices of Research and Sponsored Projects (ORSP) Research Analysts to work with principal investigators for necessary budget amendments, no costs extensions, and other necessary actions for full cost recovery of grant projects.
- Coordinates quarterly research expenditure reconciliation meetings with pre and post award offices to ensure accuracy of reports.
- Coordinates the coding of internal research expenditures within the finance system and makes recommendations for improvement of the process.
- Identifies trends in financial performance of grants and provides recommendations for process improvement to pre and post award offices.
- Coordinates with other members of the financial team and budget offices to review financial information for proposals and financial statements.
- Researches, analyzes and makes recommendations to pre and post award offices on process improvement tools and necessary policies.

Requisite Qualifications
- Typically a bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or other closely related field.
- Minimum three years of experience in a business environment in accounting, business administration or related field. Higher education work experience highly desired.
- Incumbent will be expected to continue upgrading knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to keep abreast of regulation/policy changes.
- Ability to train staff and students to manage workload in a deadline-driven environment.
- Strong mathematical skill, strategic thinking, and attention to detail to calculate financial data and provide accurate reports.
- Ability to use sound judgment, analyze disparate information, evaluate complex and ambiguous situations and recommend solutions.
- Exemplary communication skills (both written and oral) and strong customer service ethic.
- Highly developed organizational skills to effectively maintain large quantities of financial information in online systems.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office software, with extensive working knowledge of Excel. Ability to learn new technology in a changing environment. Experience in Workday a plus.
