We are seeking the kind of analyst who understands the importance of interpreting and visualizing data for both internal and external customers. You are a trusted partner for our business teams who understands that superior service, organized project management and clear, quality deliverables are key elements to generating delight in your work. You are a detailed person to the max and want to understand the why and how of each data element from each system so that you can help create the most meaningful and clear dashboards and reports. You use your analytics skills to reveal trends, patterns and anomalies within disparate data sets and sources. You might not be the expert on impact investing, fund and portfolio management, and investor needs, but you love to partner with those experts to deliver what they need to answer key business, investor and stakeholder questions.  You love crafting intuitive PowerBi dashboards and learning the best way to display different types of data to transform data in stories.

This position is remote. Our team is distributed across the “U.S.” and works remotely. 

Primary responsibilities

You will work under the direction of the Senior Director of IT and work closely with businesses and functions, including the Fund Management, Fund Services and Finance and Fund Operations teams to create valuable data & analytics business insights. You will be responsible to:

Data Management & Infrastructure

  • Work across MDF’s functions and teams to understand where data is collected and stored; including identifying both sources of record and reference between MDF’s structured and unstructured data set.
  • Build a company wide Data Dictionary providing detailed information on the ownership, structure, definition, relationships and other characteristics of MDF’s structured and unstructured data.
  • Inform business data decisions; ensuring business stakeholders understand relevant current data uses and restrictions and informing future collection of data needed to meet business dashboard and reporting needs.
  • Partner with MDF’s functions and teams and the Sr. Data and Analytics Engineer on data collection efforts to ensure data is formatted, structured and collected in a manner that allows proper data ingestion to MDF’s Data Warehouse.
  • Utilize necessary programming tools to ensure collected data is properly ingested for data analysis.

Data Quality Control

  • Work with MDF’s functions and teams to identify a risk based approach to Data Quality Control throughout MDF’s systems and data collection efforts.
  • Establish Data Validation parameters based on business requirements and MDF’s Data Quality Control approach.
  • Create reports that monitor the health of MDF’s structured and unstructured data against relevant Data Validation parameters; presenting regular updates to data owners for review and decisions.

Data Visualization

  • Partner with MDF’s functions and teams to understand business requirements for dashboards and reports.
  • Use an agile mindset to create and deliver quality and on-time dashboards and reports and intermediary deliverables.
  • Use business requirements to extract actionable insights used to guide business, portfolio and fund level decisions.
  • Train MDF dashboard and report owners on the use, maintenance and manipulation of delivered dashboards and reports.
  • Partner with MDF stakeholders ensuring delivery of ad hoc dashboards and reports, as necessary, utilizing necessary programming tools to extract and manipulate data for further stakeholder refinement.

General Responsibilities

  • Collaborate and coordinate on cross–functional initiatives and projects with internal teams and stakeholders 
  • Utilize standard processes and tools; Review and develop improved tools and templates to enhance efficiency and accuracy of processes as needed
  • Manage or lead projects including influencing strategy, workstreams, deadlines, and setting priorities
  • Active participation in industry forums, conferences, and networking events to stay abreast of emerging trends, best practices, and market dynamics.
  • Mentor junior employees

Qualifications

And have a background and skills that include:

  • 6+ years of data analyst or data visualisation experience; OR
    • Bachelor's degree and 2+ years of data analyst experience
  • 4+ years of experience creating dashboards and reports within PowerBi or Tableau
  • 4+ years of experience working with cross-functional teams to document business requirements and deliver high quality, on-time results.
  • 2+ years of experience utilizing statistical analysis to generate actionable business insights.
  • Proficiency in SQL. 
  • Experience in guiding team members through challenges, providing mentorship, and promoting professional development. 
  • Excellent attention to detail, document review, and proofreading skills
  • Excellent planning, organizational, and time management skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with a high level of professionalism to both internal and external audiences
  • Adaptable and responsive in an evolving startup environment with competing priorities and deadlines
  • Strong comfort with and demonstrated ability to learn technology tools, such as Google Workspace, Microsoft Suite, project management systems (Asana), and communication systems (Slack)

Preference for candidates that also have one or more of the following:

  • Proficiency in Python. 
  • Experience with loan, debt investing or structured product data.
  • Exposure to, or deep interest in, (impact) investing; this might include experience working directly with nonprofits, social enterprises, philanthropic endeavors, or investment firms 
  • Fluency in another language beyond English
  • Lived experience in our target investment communities, such as communities of color, Native or Indigenous, New American, veteran, low-to-moderate income, or other overlooked and underestimated populations

Compensation

This is a Senior level role with an annual salary range of $78,000 - $115,000 per year, plus company incentives, based on your unique skills and experience.
