KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Analyzes historical accounting data and other information to make projections which will aid management in short- and long-range financial planning.
  • Coordinates action necessary to correct account balances and maintain proper accounting controls and procedures.
  • Assists in year-end audits and in ensuring the accuracy of accounting data.
  • Analyzes financial statements and prepares and analyzes financial reports to represent current and projected financial status.
  • Projects future trends and prepares long-range operational forecasts and cash flow analysis.
  • May assist in preparing, developing and monitoring budgets.
  • May perform indirect cost analysis.
  • Performs related responsibilities as required.

Position Summary: The Financial Analyst will support the financial operations of the Epidemiology department by overseeing budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis, and reporting. This individual will manage non-sponsored accounts, reconcile financial transactions, and ensure the integrity of financial data. The role also involves providing financial guidance to department leadership and ensuring compliance with organizational policies.


Key Responsibilities:

Β 

Budget Management and Forecasting:

  • Manage the department’s operating budget, including forecasting, tracking expenditures, and identifying cost-saving opportunities.
  • Assist in the preparation of annual budgets and periodic forecasts, working closely with Senior Director of Business & Administration.
  • Provide regular budget reports and analysis to Senior Director of Business & Administration to ensure financial goals are met.

Non-Sponsored Accounts Management:

  • Oversee and manage all non-sponsored accounts, ensuring accurate tracking, reconciliation, and reporting.
  • Ensure proper documentation for all transactions and compliance with financial policies.

Financial Reporting and Analysis:

  • Prepare and deliver discretionary financial reports for faculty on a bi-monthly basis.
  • Provide financial analysis to support decision-making and recommend actions to improve financial performance.
  • Conduct regular financial reviews to assess departmental spending against budget.

Transaction Review, Compliance, and UTBG Management:

  • Review and approve financial transactions, including journal entries, expense reports, and invoices, ensuring compliance with internal policies and standards.
  • Monitor and manage Used To Be Grants (UTBG) charges, ensuring they are moved to the appropriate grant or project.
  • Investigate and resolve discrepancies in financial transactions, working collaboratively with other teams as needed.

Administrative Backup and Surge Capacity Support:

  • Provide backup support for administrative staff during periods of high workload or absence, including processing expense reports, verifying documentation, and ensuring accurate recording of financial transactions.
  • Investigate financial discrepancies or concerns raised by administrative staff, providing guidance and resolution in a timely manner.
  • Assist with any other administrative financial duties as required, ensuring continuity of operations during surge periods

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, business management, finance or a related field and two years of financial analysis or accounting experience, OR equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Advanced Software Skills: Experience with advanced financial software tools (e.g., SAP, Oracle, or similar) or data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau).
  • Experience in Higher Education or Nonprofit Sector: Knowledge of specific accounting practices and financial management within the higher education or nonprofit sectors is highly preferred.
  • Budgeting & Forecasting: Experience managing complex departmental budgets and long-term forecasting.
  • ERP Systems: Experience with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems such as Workday, Banner, or PeopleSoft.

NOTE: This role will be granted the opportunity to work from home regularly but must be able to commute to Emory University on a flexible weekly schedule based upon business needs. Β Schedule is based on agreed upon guidelines of department. This role requires residency in the state of GA. Emory reserves the right to change remote work status with notice to employee.
